Business in the Community NI: Online Chair Yoga at the Age at Work Conference

By 2030 it is estimated that half of all adults in the UK will be over 50.
This means that understanding the challenges and opportunities presented by an ageing workforce will be vital for your business to thrive.
BITCNI’s Age at Work Conference is designed to help businesses to look beyond age, and see the opportunity that lies within supporting people over 50 to remain in, or return to work.
I was delighted to join a wide ranging speaker list including Gordon Lyons, Economy Minister; Ciaran Cunningham, Policy Lead for Active Ageing, Department for Communities; Dr Evelyn Collins, Chief Executive, Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, chaired by Wendy Austin, Broadcaster, Journalist and Host, and with Keynote from Ruby Wax - and bring an online 10 minute Chair Yoga session to the programme.
This 10 minute beginner friendly workshop was designed to give participants the tools they’ll need to boost their working from home habits throughout 2022 - all from their trusty desk chair :)
The bespoke session was designed to:
Outline the benefits of better rest/movement balance
Encourage better posture and strengthen the low back while seate
Encourage participants to enjoy 2 mins of movement each hour to boost mental healt
Decrease stress and increase mental wellbeing whilst at home
Increase postural awareness, strength and mobility
Highlight importance of regular exercise on mental health
Gain accountability & structure for exercising
Motivate the participants, while having fun
Thanks again to BITCNI for having me - look forward to working with the team again soon :)

Hosting a Kickass Bootcamp workout for adults showcasing all the awesome strength training equipment on offer was my intention. In reality, so many mini Bootcamp Superstars turned up we shifted to playing head shoulders knees toes & cones & singing Lava Chicken from the Minecraft Movie instead!
