Kicking off 2023 with Chair Yoga & Yoga for Positive Mental Health with Education Authority NI

I’ve been lucky enough to work with Education Authority Northern Ireland - EANI - since late 2020, and I’m delighted that we’re kicking off 2023 together with two brand new programmes: Chair Yoga for Desk Workers, and Yoga for Positive Mental Health.

The Education Authority has responsibility for the provision and delivery of education and youth services in Northern Ireland, and our sessions are open to all 43,000 of their staff - teaching staff, support staff in schools, all corporate staff... a lot!

After an awesome couple of years hosting our Online Yoga Fundamentals programme, we’re kicking off 2023 together with two brand new programmes: Chair Yoga for Desk Workers, and Yoga for Positive Mental Health, with a tailored approach specifically designed for the needs of a diverse EANI staff.

Our LIVE lunchtime Chair Yoga for Desk Workers sessions are short, informal, and designed to highlight the many benefits of taking time out - at our desk, or away from the desk - to move more during the working day, helping:

  • Improve cognitive function through better work/movement balance

  • Promote better posture & reduce low back pain

  • Increase feelings of emotional wellbeing

  • Promote better quality sleep

The sessions are designed to give each participant a ‘toolbox’ of moves to take away and use during each and every working day, reducing the stigma, and normalising taking time during the working day to move/stretch/breathe/walk etc. 

Put simply - taking regular breaks to breathe deeply, stretch, move & smile will go a long way to helping your mind & body feel awesome at work.

Our LIVE evening Yoga for Positive Mental Health sessions are designed to: 

  • Provide an all ability session for colleagues, where they can take time out to focus on themselves, while feeling connected, virtually through physical activity

  • Combine foundational yoga postures, with calming breathing techniques that help reduce stress & anxiety & help promote positive mental health.

  • Give confidence to those hoping to give yoga a try, but are a bit unsure or overwhelmed with where to start

  • Decrease stress and increase mental well being within the workplace

  • Improve workforce camaraderie and sense of community

  • Increase postural awareness, strength and mobility

  • Build resistance to physical and mental fatigue

  • Highlight importance of “Taking 5” to improve productivity through better work rest balance


As before, all LIVE sessions are recorded and available for participants to repeat or catch up on, as part of a bespoke EANI Online Content Hub.

We’re just in our third week of these new programmes, but already gathering some great feedback from the team – thanks again EANI for having me work with you again :)
